Tattoo Glossary — B
Blackout
A tattooing technique that covers large areas of skin in solid black ink, sometimes covering the entire arm, leg, or torso. Used as a dramatic cover-up or aesthetic choice.
In detail
Blackout requires multiple passes and sessions to achieve consistent saturation. The area must be methodically worked in sections to avoid uneven density. Aftercare is more intensive for large-scale solid black work.
