TatScout's findings

With 357 reviews and a perfect 5-star rating, New York Tattoo Collective is clearly doing something right-but the real signal here is longevity paired with consistency. Five years in, this studio hasn't coasted on early hype; it's maintained discipline by appointment-only booking and a deliberate stylistic range (traditional through geometric to illustrative) that attracts serious clients rather than walk-in browsers. This is a studio for people who plan ahead and value process over impulse. If you're after a quick walk-in fix, look elsewhere. If you've got a clear vision and want experienced hands, book a consultation.

About the studio

New York Tattoo Collective operates in the heart of New York's vibrant tattoo scene, drawing clients from across the city and beyond. The studio has built a solid reputation since its establishment in 2019, positioning itself as a destination for clients who take their ink seriously and expect polished, thoughtful execution.

The collective specialises in a versatile range of styles: traditional work with bold lines and rich colour, tribal designs rooted in cultural symbolism, geometric patterns that demand precision and vision, and illustrative pieces that blur the line between fine art and body modification. This breadth means you're likely to find an artist here whose sensibility aligns with your own, whether you're after timeless Americana or contemporary fine-line work with conceptual depth.

First-time clients should know that walk-ins are not the studio's model-appointments are essential. This approach reflects a commitment to consultation and planning rather than quick turnarounds. You'll want to get in touch ahead of time to discuss your idea with the right artist and to understand the studio's deposit and booking practices. The professional service the studio is known for typically means clear communication about timelines, aftercare, and your specific vision.

New York Tattoo Collective has earned its standing through consistent quality and a client-focused approach, making it a reliable choice if you're seeking skilled, versatile artistry in a structured, professional environment.

I had a wonderful time with City! She did a wonderful job on my lil fine line tattoo and was such a sweetie throughout the whole process. I love how it turned out and couldn’t recommend her more. The shop also did great with two weekend walk ins. It was clean and nice and had such comforting vibes! Will def be back:)

I got tattooed by Skye here back in March and they did an absolutely gorgeous job. This was first time getting a large piece and they were very patient and accommodating about my needs about pacing and taking breaks, they had a really good bedside manner on that front. It wound up healing beautifully with no hiccups and I’d go back to them in a heartbeat, their style and use of color is sick as hell.

I went to New York Tattoo Collective about two weeks ago because I was interested in getting a tattoo of a character I really liked. I was visiting from California, already had three tattoos and wanted a custom piece for the first time, so I went in and asked to do a walk in and meet an artist named Skye. While getting this tattoo though, it hurt a lot more than any of my other tattoos. I’m a novice still at receiving tattoos and so I don’t know what is normal for pain so I just thought it was okay because I trusted Skye and their six years of tattooing. But after four hours, the tattoo was done but a lot of ink was coming out of my skin. From what I understood, Skye went over my skin a lot with the ink and said I should wear second skin got an extra few days due to it. But by the time the second skin was put on my skin and I paid $400, ink and blood was already beginning to fill it. The next morning though, I woke up to the second skin on my arm being full, popped, and staining the bed I was sleeping on. Some of my own skin came off with this and my arm felt extremely irritated. None of my other tattoos ever felt like this before or had issues like this before. I went back to the shop when they opened and Skye had reapplied the second skin for me and said I was good to go again. But not even an hour went by and the second skin had come loose from my skin, pulling the skin back because of how tightly it was on. After a week, while I was back in California, my arm was still very irritated and I went to get an opinion from a friend of mine who has gotten tattoos for many years and has full sleeves. I was told that my arm was irritated because I got multiple scars from how the tattoo was done and that because of the amount of ink, that the color wasn’t holding. My tattoo doesn’t look as good as I was originally shown rather it now is covered with scars on the outline of it and the red is mixing with the black in the middle. The color is ruined. I now have to get a big cover up because I feel embarrassed and disappointed and have no other way to hide the tattoo since it’s in such an open spot on my arm. I wouldn’t recommend going to Skye for a tattoo personally. The images added are of the tattoo being mostly healed and each in different lighting. The scars are on the bottom of the trench coat, the smoke of the cigar, the fist, and head. The color is inconsistent in many spots, making it cloudy and blurry, especially with the fist and face, which is meant to be the most significant part of this character also. It was really shotty work and I’m just so disappointed in it. edit: the final image is what the tattoo looked like when I first got it
