FAQ, Tattoo Pricing
How much does a small tattoo cost?
A small tattoo (3-7 cm) typically costs €100-€220 in an average city. Fine line and minimalist designs in major cities can go up to €300+ even for small pieces.
Why does style affect price so much?
Realism and dotwork are time-intensive techniques that require more skill and precision. A realistic portrait can take 3-4x longer than a traditional flash piece of the same size.
Is colour more expensive than black and grey?
Usually a little. Colour work uses more ink and needs extra passes to build saturation, so it takes longer. Expect roughly 10-20% more than the same piece in black and grey.
Does placement change the price?
It can. Hands, fingers, feet, the neck and the head are slower to tattoo and the skin is trickier, so artists often charge a premium. Ribs, chest and stomach also tend to take longer than an arm or leg.
Do I tip my tattoo artist?
In most Western countries, tipping 10-20% is appreciated but not required. In the US, 20% is standard. In Europe, tipping is less common but always welcome for exceptional work.
Why is my quote different from the estimate?
Every design is unique. Artists price based on placement, skin tone, your reference images, and how long they expect the session to take. This calculator gives a market range, not a firm quote.
