Based on rating, reviews, styles and availability
With a 4.9 rating across 389 reviews and over a decade of operation, Lucky Dagger has quietly built one of New Orleans's most consistent portfolios in fine-line and Japanese styles. That's not hype-that's pattern recognition. The studio's no walk-in policy and specialisation signal a place where artists control their own schedules and client relationships. Strong fit if you're committed to a specific vision; less suitable if you're still deciding what you want or prefer dropping by on impulse.
About the studio
Lucky Dagger Tattoo has been operating in New Orleans since 2011, establishing itself as a fixture in a city known for bold artistic expression and deep cultural roots. The studio draws clients who value precision and cultural authenticity, whether they're seeking intricate fine-line work or the disciplined geometry of Japanese-inspired designs. New Orleans itself-a neighbourhood rich in music, history, and visual storytelling-attracts the kind of clientele who view a tattoo as a meaningful addition to their personal narrative rather than an impulse decision.
The studio's reputation rests on its specialisation in fine-line and Japanese styles, two disciplines that demand technical control and a steady hand. Fine-line work, in particular, requires an artist who understands how ink will age and settle into skin over time; Japanese tattooing carries its own centuries-old conventions around composition, symbolism, and placement. Lucky Dagger's consistency across nearly 390 five-star reviews suggests the artists here have mastered both the technical and conceptual sides of these styles.
First-time clients should know that Lucky Dagger does not accept walk-ins, so plan ahead and arrange a consultation before your visit. This approach typically indicates a studio that prioritises matching the right artist to your vision rather than squeezing in quick sessions. The studio's longevity and high review count suggest a straightforward booking process and professional service standards you can rely on. In New Orleans's vibrant tattoo landscape, Lucky Dagger stands out as a specialist destination for those serious about fine-line or Japanese work.

I love Lucky Dagger! have been here for several tattoos and my most recent one was such a great experience. Dani is great conversation and a great artist. Genuinely the least painful session I've ever had and zero discomfort while healing as well. The design I chose from her flash definitely helped with that but loved my whole experience start to finish. highly recommend

My husband and I both have gone here for several tattoos. We love all the artists here, it’s a queer safe place, and the work is impeccable. They have rad merch and it’s in walking distance from so many places in the cbd. I get compliments on the tats from here on the daily from customers at my restaurant jobs and I often suggest they check Lucky Dagger out, hopefully they’ve gotten some walk-ins from me 🩷 The pricing here is also very fair, with even the owner Jacqui who is quite talented having the time and the want to tattoo new faces. Can’t recommend enough.

Artists are warm and welcoming. The shop is comfortable. Not much to compare to (first tattoo), but Jacqui was professional and easy to communicate with. She was quick to respond to emails, and she definitely took care to ensure that I ended up with the result I wanted. I could not be happier with the outcome.

Had my work done by Era, and she was wonderful. The vibe was very chill, everyone was courteous and friendly, and Era gave me one of my favorite tattoos, and I have many. Thanks again to them (especially Era), and you won't regret your trip there. They played really great, chill music the entire time I was there, which is a lovely added bonus.

While in New Orleans celebrating a joint birthday, my friend and I wanted to get matching fine line Libra tattoos. We found Lucky Dagger Tattoo and reached out. They were super responsive and excellent to work with on booking. We saw artist Era. She took the design we wanted and simplified it for the fine line design. We are both so happy with the service, the shop, and our tattoos. Era was great to work with. If ever back in New Orleans, I would stop in again for something else. First two pictures were taken the day of the tattoo. Picture 3 is fully healed.
